The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that investigations are ongoing into allegations of domestic abuse involving Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua, and her husband, Harold Norman.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said it received a petition from Rosemond Akua Adobea on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.
Following the petition, Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations. The Police said a caution statement was subsequently obtained from him, after which he was granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29.
Norman was scheduled to appear before court on October 7, but his lawyer informed the Police that he had been admitted to hospital and was therefore unable to attend the proceedings.
The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has since visited the hospital to verify the claim and is monitoring the situation.
“Investigators from DOVVSU have visited the said hospital to verify the claim and are monitoring the situation to ensure he is arraigned immediately upon discharge,” the CID said.
The Police also disclosed that preliminary investigations had revealed an earlier case involving the couple, which was handled by DOVVSU at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026.
The CID said it is also working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure the provision of social welfare services for the victim and her children.
“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Service are investigated professionally and fairly,” the statement added.
The case follows a petition submitted by Rosemond Akua Adobea to the Director-General of the CID on August 20, 2026. In the petition, she alleged that her husband had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.
Police investigations subsequently led to Norman’s arrest on August 27. After providing a caution statement, he was granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29, pending the continuation of investigations.
He was expected to appear before court on October 7, but the Police said the scheduled appearance could not proceed because he had been admitted to hospital.
Investigators have since visited the facility to verify the claim, with the Police indicating that he will be arraigned after his discharge.
