Frederick Amponsah-Doku, the recently removed Managing Director of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), is reportedly working behind the scenes to reclaim his position, banking on his alleged influence within the corridors of power.
According to credible sources within the CMC, Mr. Amponsah-Doku has told a group of trusted staff members that he will be reinstated by Monday, May 12. In a closed-door meeting with some senior employees, he reportedly stated that although he is not a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), he has strong connections within the party that are working in his favor.
“He told us not to worry,” one insider disclosed. “He said he’s meeting a woman of immense influence this weekend and is confident that she will ensure his return as Managing Director.”
Mr. Amponsah-Doku, who previously served as Deputy MD under the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, has had a controversial career at CMC. His leadership was often criticized by staff members who accused him of being divisive, partisan, and self-centered in his dealings. Many workers reportedly welcomed his removal, citing a strained working environment during his tenure.
Despite this, Amponsah-Doku is believed to have powerful allies pushing for his comeback. Notably, he is said to have the support of Ghana Cocoa Board CEO, Dr. Randy Abbey, as well as former CMC Managing Directors Mr. Vincent Okyere Akomeah and Mr. Joe Forson. Sources indicate that both Akomeah and Forson have ongoing business dealings with CMC through third parties — arrangements that could be affected should Mr. Amponsah-Doku’s exit become permanent.
