A concrete road project linking Damang in the Western Region to Cape Coast is reportedly underway, in what is being described as a significant infrastructure development for communities along the route.
The project follows a commitment made by businessman and mining entrepreneur, Ibrahim Mahama after his company took over operations of the Damang mine.
The road is expected to improve connectivity between Damang and Cape Coast and help address longstanding transportation challenges faced by residents, businesses and other road users who rely on the route.
The reported commencement of construction marks a move towards fulfilling the commitment made by Mr Mahama following the takeover of the Damang Mine.
Mr Mahama, who is widely associated with Ghana’s mining and construction sectors through his Engineers and Planners, has been involved in a number of mining and infrastructure-related initiatives.
The concrete road project is also drawing attention to the role of private businesses and investors in supporting infrastructure development in communities where they operate.
If completed as planned, the project would improve transportation between communities in the Western Region and Cape Coast, while potentially supporting economic activity along the route.
However, details regarding the total length of the road, the cost of the project, its construction timeline and the specific communities expected to benefit have not yet been disclosed.
