The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the successful election of its new national executives.
In a statement on Monday, October 5, 2026, and signed by NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful political engagement, democratic values and the protection of Ghana’s democratic gains.
“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) congratulates the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the successful election of its new national executives over the weekend,” the statement said.
The governing party said it expects the change in the NPP’s leadership to contribute to constructive political engagement and strengthen Ghana’s democratic process.
“The NDC remains committed to the promotion of peaceful political engagement, democratic values and the collective responsibility of all political actors to protect and deepen Ghana’s democracy,” it stated.
The NDC also called for mutual respect between the two major political parties, stressing that national interests must take precedence over partisan considerations.
“It is the fervent hope of the NDC that under the tenure of this new crop of executives, there will be mutual respect to ensure that the interest of Ghana always surpasses the narrowest interest of the respective parties, so the mission of making Ghana great and strong will be boosted,” the statement added.
The congratulatory message follows the NPP’s national executive elections held over the weekend, which ushered in a new leadership team to steer the affairs of the opposition party.
The development comes as the NDC and NPP, Ghana’s two dominant political parties, continue to compete for political power while playing a central role in the country’s Fourth Republic.
