He has my full support – Adwoa Safo accepts Israel as Kantanka family leader

Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has made a significant shift in her position on the leadership of the Kantanka family and Kristo Asafo Church, publicly accepting her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, as leader and pledging to work with him.

The declaration marks a striking new development in a family leadership dispute that has dominated public attention since the death of their father, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo.

In June, the family, with Adwoa Safo identified as its head, publicly rejected Israel Kwadwo Safo’s assumption of leadership of the Kristo Asafo Church and maintained that it did not recognise his claim.

That position has now changed.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 8, 2026, Adwoa Safo said she had chosen reconciliation and was prepared to work with her brother in the interest of the family and the Church.

“The time has come for us, as a family, to transcend whatever differences, misunderstandings or grievances that may have characterised the immediate aftermath of the demise of our dear dad and consign them to history.”

She went further by formally acknowledging Israel Kwadwo Safo as the leader of both the Kantanka family and Kristo Asafo Church.

“I have immense love and respect for my brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, and in the spirit of honouring our father’s wishes, I publicly acknowledge and accept him as the Leader of the Kantanka Family and the Kristo Asafo Church.”

The statement also contained an unequivocal pledge of cooperation.

“He has my full support, and I state unequivocally, that, I am prepared and willing to work together with him in the interest of the family and the Church, in furtherance of our father’s Vision and Legacy.”

The development is particularly significant because it follows months of sharply contrasting positions over who should lead the Church following the death of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo.

The disagreement had previously moved beyond family discussions, with legal action initiated over the succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

The July reading of the late Apostle’s will also become a major turning point, with Israel Kwadwo Safo subsequently described in reports as the successor to the Kantanka Empire.

Adwoa Safo’s latest statement does not dwell on those earlier disagreements. Instead, it seeks to draw a line under them.

“I have chosen the path of conciliation, founded upon love, mutual respect and the enduring undisputed bonds of family.”

She also appears to be asking supporters and members of the wider Kantanka and Kristo Asafo communities to recognise the change in direction.

“I encourage all members of the Kristo Asafo Church and the larger Kantanka family and everyone associated with our father’s work whilst he was alive to acknowledge and respect the unity of the family.”

For Adwoa Safo, the issue is now less about who won a leadership disagreement and more about what happens to the legacy left behind by their father.

“Our father’s legacy transcends any one individual. It is a collective inheritance and a profound responsibility entrusted to us, as his children and it is a charge we must keep and hold on to, dearly.”

She called on the family to preserve what Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo built and ensure that his ideals survive the disagreements that followed his death.

“We must therefore rise above our differences, preserve what he built and ensure that his ideals continue to inspire generations to come.”

The latest message could therefore represent an important attempt to close one of the most contentious chapters in the family’s post-Apostle Kwadwo Safo era.

Adwoa Safo ended by extending goodwill to Israel and her other siblings, describing the development as a renewed journey of peace and forgiveness.

“I extend my sincere goodwill and best wishes to my brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo and to my other siblings on this renewed journey of peace and forgiveness.”

She added; “May this new chapter bring healing, unity and renewed strength as we come together to honour and advance the legacy of our beloved father.”
