The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) joined the chiefs and people of Cape Coast in the Central Region to celebrate this year’s Fetu Afahye Festival, using the occasion to educate the public on petroleum product safety, consumer rights and avenues for lodging complaints and making enquiries.

The NPA delegation, led by its Chief Executive, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, engaged members of the public during the celebrations and shared information on safe handling and use of petroleum products, as well as consumer protection.

Speaking to the media during the festival, Mr Tameklo said the NPA was pleased to participate in an event that brings people together while showcasing the rich culture and traditions of Oguaaman.

He said the festival, particularly the Orange Friday Float, provided an important opportunity for the Authority to engage directly with consumers of petroleum products.

“Fetu Afahye is an important celebration for the people of Oguaaman and Ghana as a whole.

The Orange Friday Float, in particular, brings together people from different backgrounds in a very vibrant atmosphere.

And these people are consumers of petroleum products in one form or another,” he said.

Mr Tameklo explained that the NPA’s participation went beyond the celebration, stressing the importance of connecting with consumers and providing them with relevant information on petroleum safety and their rights.

He reaffirmed stakeholder satisfaction as a key priority of his administration and an important component of the NPA’s mandate in regulating Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

The NPA said it would continue to protect the interests of petroleum consumers through sustained public education, effective complaint management, consumer and market intelligence, and continuous engagement with stakeholders across the country.

The Authority’s participation in Fetu Afahye forms part of its broader efforts to take consumer education beyond traditional platforms and directly engage communities nationwide.
