The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has held discussions with Zijin Golden Ridge Limited on opportunities to deepen collaboration and expand investment in Ghana’s mining sector.
The meeting, held last Friday at the MIIF Head Office in Accra, focused on key areas including investment, technology, value-chain development, sustainability and capacity building.
The Zijin Golden Ridge Limited delegation was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Lizhong Zhang, while the MIIF team was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Justina Nelson.
The engagement formed part of MIIF’s efforts to establish strategic partnerships capable of promoting responsible investment and increasing the value Ghana derives from its mineral resources.
The two parties identified several potential areas for further cooperation, including co-investment in mining assets, the acquisition and development of new assets, structured financing, technology transfer and capacity building.
Other areas discussed included research, environmental and biodiversity initiatives, as well as community development programmes.
Mrs Nelson said stronger collaboration between MIIF and Zijin Golden Ridge could contribute significantly to maximising the value Ghana derives from its mineral resources.
She underscored the importance of partnerships that combine investment, technology and sustainable mining practices to support the long-term development of the sector.
For his part, Mr Zhang highlighted Zijin Golden Ridge’s contribution to Ghana through taxes, royalties, local procurement, employment and investments in host communities.
He also outlined the company’s use of technology and cost-optimisation measures to improve productivity and extend the operational life of its mining assets.
Zijin Golden Ridge Limited further expressed interest in expanding its investments in Ghana and exploring additional opportunities across the African continent.
The engagement is expected to pave the way for further discussions on potential investments and strategic partnerships between MIIF and the Chinese-owned mining company.
