President John Dramani Mahama has reminded ministers, chief executives, board members and other political appointees of his administration’s expectations on discipline, accountability and performance, warning that conduct that undermines government’s work will not be tolerated.

The warning comes amid recent changes to the government’s leadership structure, including ministerial changes, the dissolution of selected boards and an impending reshuffle of chief executives.

According to the notice signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama to ministers and political appointees, the changes reflect the President’s determination to strengthen institutional leadership, improve coordination and ensure that appointees remain aligned with government policies and priorities.

The President expects all appointees to carry out their duties with integrity, diligence and humility while respecting established administrative procedures.

The notice states, “Conduct that undermines governmental cohesion, institutional authority or the effective implementation of Government policy will not be tolerated.”

The notice also stressed that public office should be treated as a responsibility to the Ghanaian people, rather than a personal entitlement.

“All appointees are reminded that public office is a privilege and an opportunity to serve the Ghanaian people,” the notice said.

It added that performance across government sectors would continue to be assessed, with the President prepared to take further action where necessary.

“Performance across all sectors will continue to be assessed, and the President will take any further action necessary to safeguard the integrity, effectiveness and responsiveness of his Administration,” it stated.

The directive also calls on ministers, deputy ministers, chief executives, board members and other political appointees to work together to deliver the government’s mandate.

The notice concludes with a call for cooperation and commitment from all appointees as the administration seeks to improve service delivery and the lives of Ghanaians.
