The Volta River Authority (VRA) has reversed a GHS106 million loss recorded in 2024 to post a profit of GHS88 million in 2025, according to the 2025 State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) report.
The report, themed “Resetting the Economy for a Better Ghana”, examines the performance of state-owned enterprises, joint venture companies and other public institutions across sectors including finance, energy, transport, agriculture, health and infrastructure.

It highlights entities that recorded improvements in revenue, profitability, assets, liquidity and service delivery, while identifying institutions burdened by losses, rising liabilities, weak internal revenue generation and operational inefficiencies.

The turnaround of VRA under the leadership of Ing. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo represents a significant improvement in the Authority’s financial performance, with VRA moving from a loss position to profitability within a year.

The report, dated August 31, 2026, highlights the improved performance as part of the financial developments recorded among Ghana’s state-owned enterprises during the 2025 reporting period.

VRA’s return to profitability comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen the operational and financial sustainability of the power sector and improve the performance of state-owned enterprises.

The GHS194 million swing from the previous year’s loss to the 2025 profit underscores the extent of the Authority’s financial recovery.

The latest figures are expected to reinforce efforts to improve efficiency, financial discipline and accountability within state-owned enterprises as government continues to pursue reforms aimed at making them more commercially sustainable.
