Builsa North Member of Parliament, James Agalga, has formally assumed office as Majority Leader in Parliament, pledging to promote consensus and provide effective leadership in advancing the government’s legislative agenda.
Mr. Agalga expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and members of the Majority Caucus for entrusting him with the responsibility.
In a statement following his formal introduction and acceptance of the position, the newly appointed Majority Leader acknowledged the significant task ahead, particularly the responsibility of helping to translate the government’s Reset Agenda into tangible improvements in the lives of Ghanaians.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us to make the RESET Agenda a lived reality for every Ghanaian family,” Mr. Agalga said.
He pledged to work closely with members of the Majority Caucus, the Minority, and other stakeholders to build consensus and facilitate the passage of legislation required to implement the government’s programmes.
“The work begins now. Ghana will win,” he added.
Mr. Agalga’s elevation follows a reshuffle of the NDC Majority Caucus leadership that saw his predecessor, Mahama Ayariga, leave Parliament to serve as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
As Majority Leader, Mr. Agalga will play a central role in coordinating government business in Parliament, organising the legislative calendar and guiding key bills and policy initiatives through the House.
His immediate task will be to strengthen unity within the Majority Caucus while promoting constructive engagement with the Minority to secure bipartisan support where possible for the government’s legislative priorities.
The new Majority Leader is therefore expected to combine parliamentary strategy, consensus-building and effective coordination to ensure that Parliament delivers on the government’s Reset Agenda.
