The Government is set to hold a media briefing on major drainage works along the Kaneshie-Mallam Highway in the Greater Accra Region, which will result in significant traffic diversions for several months.
The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, announced that a team from the Greater Accra Resilient Integrated Development (GARID) Project will address the media at 11:00 a.m. today on the planned works and their implications for motorists and commuters.
According to the Minister, the drainage works form part of the government’s broader flood prevention and mitigation programme aimed at addressing flooding and improving drainage infrastructure in vulnerable parts of the Greater Accra Region.
The project is expected to require extensive traffic diversions along the busy Kaneshie-Mallam corridor during the construction period, potentially affecting daily commuting and the movement of commercial and private vehicles.
Mr Ofosu Kwakye said the media briefing would provide details of the planned works, the traffic management arrangements and the expected duration of the diversions.
He added that an extensive public education campaign would follow the briefing to ensure that motorists, residents, businesses and other road users are adequately informed and prepared for the changes.
The government is expected to urge the public to cooperate with the traffic management measures as the works progress, stressing that the temporary disruptions are necessary to facilitate critical infrastructure works aimed at reducing the risk and impact of flooding.
The Kaneshie-Mallam Highway is one of the major transport corridors in the Greater Accra Region, linking several densely populated communities and serving thousands of commuters daily.
