The Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Dr. Saajida Shiraz, has rejected what she describes as a “sustained campaign of disinformation” about the implementation of the government’s No-Fees-Stress Policy.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Shiraz said the policy comprises four key interventions: the No-Academic-Fees Policy, Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities, Students Loan Plus and the Traditional Student Loan.
She said 321,680 students had so far benefited from the various components, with the No-Academic-Fees Policy alone returning close to GH₵1 billion to families.
For the 2025/26 academic year, she said 168,982 beneficiaries had been paid under the No-Academic-Fees intervention, including 45,127 students whose support was paid directly to their institutions.
Dr. Shiraz also disclosed that 1,623 students with disabilities had received full tuition and residential support, while Students Loan Plus had benefited 1,997 students, including 626 students from the Ghana School of Law.
“To date, 1,997 students have benefited, including 626 from the Ghana School of Law, with GH₵20,762,175.19 disbursed.”
She further said 59,307 students had received enhanced traditional student loans totalling GH₵210.6 million, following a 50% increase in loan amounts and a reduction in the interest rate.
Defending the policy’s impact, Dr. Shiraz said the beneficiaries were evidence of its implementation.
“The 321,680 beneficiaries so far under the initiative are not statistics to be argued away; they are the verdict.”
She assured students and the public that the SLTF would continue implementing the policy transparently.
“SLTF will continue to implement this policy faithfully, transparently, and in the interest of every Ghanaian student it was designed to serve. The facts are on the record. Let them stand.”
