The Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria, the police officer captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a pastor who had been arrested over offensive remarks against Prophet Mohammed.
The incident sparked public concern after footage emerged showing Zakaria assaulting the pastor while he was in police custody.
The Police Service has confirmed Zakaria’s arrest, saying he is currently in custody and assisting with investigations. He is expected to be put before the court.
Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Police Service said all persons found culpable after the investigation will be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary processes.
