A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics led by Musah Dankwah has found that 72 per cent of Ghanaians approve of President John Dramani Mahama’s performance in office.
The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, disclosed that 21 per cent of respondents disapproved of the President’s performance, while seven per cent expressed no opinion.
Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Mr Dankwah said the approval rating was based specifically on the President’s personal performance.
“This is based on his personal performance. Seventy-two per cent of Ghanaians approved his performance. Twenty-one per cent disapproved, and seven per cent had no opinion,” he said.
According to the poll, President Mahama’s strongest approval rating came from the Upper West Region, where 92 per cent of respondents approved of his performance.
The Volta Region followed with 88 per cent approval, while the Northern and Eastern regions recorded 72 per cent and 71 per cent respectively.
The lowest approval ratings were recorded in the Ashanti Region, at 56 per cent, and the North East Region, at 59 per cent.
Mr Dankwah said the survey was based on 7,700 completed interviews and had a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percentage points.
The poll was conducted between July 15 and 24, 2026, and will serve as the baseline for a tracking exercise that Global InfoAnalytics plans to conduct periodically ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The survey also assessed public perceptions about the direction of the country.
It found that 60 per cent of respondents believed Ghana was heading in the right direction, while 28 per cent thought the country was moving in the wrong direction.
On living standards, 53 per cent of respondents said their standard of living had improved compared with the previous year.
However, 19 per cent said their standard of living had worsened, highlighting continuing concerns among a section of the population despite the overall positive assessment of the President’s performance.
