The Eastern South Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the National Operations Directorate, has arrested 258 suspects in connection with violent disturbances that occurred at Nsawam-Adoagyiri on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that some youth allegedly engaged in acts of violence, including looting of shops, setting fire to an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer, vandalising the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astro- turf facility, as well as robbing mobile money vendors.
The disturbances reportedly caused widespread fear and panic among residents in the community.
The Police said items retrieved during the operation include two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, as well as several mobile phones.
The suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations into the incident.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured residents that adequate security measures remain in place to protect lives and property.
The Command has also appealed to members of the public with relevant information that could assist investigations to report to the nearest Police Station.
It further urged residents, particularly the youth, to remain law-abiding and avoid activities that threaten public peace and security.
