The Ashanti Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reviewed appeals from disqualified aspirants ahead of the party’s upcoming Constituency Executives Elections, allowing some candidates to participate while upholding the exclusion of others.
In a decision issued on July 6, 2026, the Committee said it had taken note of a split decision by the Constituency Appeals Committee and subsequently determined the fate of several appellants.
The Committee cleared Ntiamoah Kwadwo and Gabriel Twumasi to contest the positions of Youth Organizer and Communication Officer respectively in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Constituency.
However, the Committee upheld the earlier decision regarding the Offinso South Constituency, maintaining the majority decision of the Appeals Committee.
In the Bantama Constituency, the Committee rejected an appeal by Yussif Shaibu Bamba, stating that his absence from the country for about three years and his failure to remain active in party duties affected his eligibility to contest.
The decision was signed by Stephen Owusu, the Regional Research and Elections Officer of the Ashanti Regional NPP
The Committee also reconsidered the case involving aspirants in the Obuasi West Constituency.
It approved Kofi Appianin Ennin to contest as First Vice Chairman after considering his commitment to supporting the party and maintaining the constituency seat.
According to the Committee, although Mr Ennin had previously contested as an independent candidate, his action was intended to prevent votes from going to political opponents, and the party could not disregard his contribution.
The Regional Executive Committee, however, maintained the disqualification of Patrick Amankona in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency, citing previous allegations that he collected money from individuals with promises of securing jobs for them but failed to deliver.
The Committee noted that Mr Amankona had challenged the party’s earlier decision through legal action but was unsuccessful, adding that his past conduct remained a concern among constituents.
The appeals decisions relating to Suame, Odotobri and Akrofrom Constituencies were also upheld by the Regional Executive Committee.
