The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Kofi Asiedu, has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media suggesting that he stormed Obaatanpa Radio in Kasoa with thugs, assaulted media personnel, and threatened staff with firearms.

In a detailed statement issued on his behalf, the Chairman described the publication as “false, malicious, misleading, and a gross distortion” of events, urging the public to disregard it entirely.

The reports, which have been widely shared online, alleged that he disrupted operations at the station and intimidated workers over comments made about internal party matters.

However, Dr. Asiedu insists the claims are completely unfounded.

According to the statement, the dispute stems from ongoing internal tensions within the Awutu Senya East Constituency of the NDC, involving constituency executives and the Member of Parliament.

The Regional Chairman said he has been engaged in efforts to mediate the situation and promote unity within the party.

He explained that his visit to Obaatanpa Radio was prompted by what he described as repeated unverified allegations aired against him, which were later circulated on social media.

The purpose of the visit, he said, was to seek clarification from management and request the opportunity to respond through proper journalistic channels.

The statement noted that Dr. Asiedu visited the station while en route to an official engagement in Cape Coast and was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabah Serwonoo Banini.

It further indicated that he sought a meeting with the station’s management but was asked to meet the station manager at a political party office, a suggestion he declined, insisting that the matter concerned media content and not party operations.

The statement added that during the visit, supporters gathered at the premises following on-air commentary they considered critical of the Regional Chairman.

However, Dr. Asiedu maintains that he did not mobilize or encourage any group and had no involvement in acts of violence or intimidation.

He is also said to have instructed the MCE to contact the police to help maintain order, while he took steps to calm tensions and prevent any damage to property.

Security personnel were later called in to restore calm.

The NDC Regional Chairman stressed that at no point did he assault any journalist or threaten violence, describing the allegations as a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to media freedom, peaceful engagement, and internal party unity, adding that he has contributed significantly to strengthening the NDC’s performance in the Central Region.

The statement has urged the public and media organizations to disregard the viral claims and rely only on verified information, while reserving the right to pursue legal action against individuals or platforms responsible for spreading what it calls defamatory content.
