The President of the Accra Institute of Technology, Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, has challenged university students to develop the skills, mindset and character required to thrive in an era increasingly defined by Artificial Intelligence, automation and digital transformation.

Addressing the university’s matriculation ceremony at its Knowledge City Campus in Kokomlemle, Accra, Professor Dzidonu stressed that future success would depend not only on academic qualifications but also on the ability to think critically, adapt to change, solve complex problems and contribute meaningfully to society.

The ceremony saw 586 newly admitted students formally inducted into the AIT academic community, marking the start of their higher education journey.

Speaking on the theme, “Preparing the Sovereign Learner for a World of Opportunity, Possibility and Difference,” Professor Dzidonu encouraged the students to embrace what he described as “The Age of the Sovereign Learner,” where individuals take personal responsibility for their learning, growth and future success.

According to him, universities must move beyond the traditional role of awarding certificates and degrees and instead focus on nurturing capable individuals equipped with the knowledge, skills, resilience and values needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.

“The rapidly evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence, automation, and digital transformation demands graduates who can think for themselves, learn continuously, innovate fearlessly, and lead responsibly,” he stated.

Professor Dzidonu reaffirmed AIT’s commitment to producing graduates who are technically competent, ethically grounded, intellectually curious and globally competitive.

He noted that the university remains dedicated to fostering creativity, entrepreneurship, innovation and critical thinking among its students.

He further urged the matriculants to adopt the Opportunity–Possibility–Difference (OPD) Perspective by identifying opportunities, exploring possibilities and creating positive change in their communities and professions.

The AIT President advised the students to look beyond examinations and academic certificates and concentrate on building capability, character and courage, which he described as essential qualities for successful professionals and transformational leaders.

“Your success at AIT will not depend solely on the resources available to you but on your willingness to learn, your commitment to excellence, your discipline, and your determination to continually improve yourself,” he told the students.

The newly admitted students are pursuing programmes in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Project Management, as well as various postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

Speaking on behalf of the matriculating class, Mr. Samuel Peace Kamara expressed gratitude to the university’s leadership, faculty and staff for their warm reception.

He pledged that the students would uphold the institution’s values, pursue academic excellence and contribute positively to national and global development.

The ceremony ended with the administration of the matriculation oath and the formal admission of the students into the university community.

Founded as a technology-focused institution, the Accra Institute of Technology continues to position itself as a hub for innovation, research and technological advancement, with a strong emphasis on developing graduates equipped to compete in the global knowledge economy.
