The Amasaman High Court has reduced the prison sentence of controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa, born Patricia Asiedua, from 15 years to 12 months, ruling that the original punishment was harsh and excessive.
The court affirmed her conviction for charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence, offences she committed in 2022 by promising to double money during a televised broadcast.
Victims reportedly paid sums in anticipation of miraculous returns that never materialized.
The revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her original conviction. Nana Agradaa, founder of Heaven Way Champions International Ministry in Weija, had previously been sentenced to 15 years of hard labour and a GH¢300 fine.
The custodial sentences were to run concurrently.
