Individuals who would like to apply for Ghanaian citizenship under the Historical Diasporans program are advised that the process has been temporarily suspended.
The Ministry of the Interior and the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President (DAOOP) announced on Sunday, February 1, 2026, that the pause is aimed at improving and streamlining the application system to make it more efficient and user-friendly for applicants across the globe.
During this period, no applications or payments should be submitted. Officials emphasized that the suspension is temporary and is intended to introduce refinements that will enhance the overall experience for future applicants.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to welcoming members of the African diaspora back home and assured that updated guidelines, timelines, and procedures will be shared through official channels once the process resumes.
Prospective applicants are thanked for their patience and cooperation and are encouraged to await the new instructions before submitting any applications.
