The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Overlord of the Dagbon State, His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II, describing his death as a great loss to Dagbon and the nation as a whole.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the National Executive Council and membership of the Council extended their condolences to the Royal Family of Dagbon, the Dagbon Traditional Area and the people of Ghana.
The statement was signed by the President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Apostle Dr. Eric Nyamekye.
The GPCC said news of the Ya-Na’s passing came as a shock to the leadership of the Council, noting that he was not only a father figure and source of wisdom to the people of Dagbon but also a symbol of unity and reconciliation.
According to the Council, Ya-Na Abukari II’s seven-year reign was marked by efforts to promote peace, rebuild harmony and advance development within the Dagbon Kingdom.
“We mourn the loss of a great leader, a unifier, and a custodian of the rich cultural heritage of Dagbon and Ghana,” the statement said.
The Council praised the late overlord for his wisdom, dedication to peace and unwavering commitment to the progress and wellbeing of his people, adding that his leadership contributed significantly to strengthening social cohesion and national unity.
“As a Council that upholds the values of faith, peace and national cohesion, we acknowledge the profound impact of Ya-Na Abukari II’s leadership and his contributions to strengthening the social fabric of our nation,” the statement noted.
The GPCC further stated that the passing of the Dagbon King represents not only a loss to the people of Dagbon but also to Ghana as a whole.
The Council assured the bereaved family, traditional authorities and people of Dagbon of its solidarity and prayers during the period of mourning.
It prayed for strength and comfort for the royal family, chiefs and people of Dagbon, while urging Ghanaians to uphold the late Ya-Na’s legacy of peace, unity and development.
