A 45-year-old Ghanaian man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of raping a woman at her home in Milton Keynes, England.
Evans Nyarko was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Thursday, October 1, after a jury unanimously found him guilty of one count of rape. The conviction followed a six-day trial, which concluded on May 26, 2026.
The case relates to an incident in the Conniburrow area of Milton Keynes on August 12, 2024.
According to Thames Valley Police, Nyarko offered to help the woman get home by taxi after a night out with friends and acquaintances.
The woman, who was in her fifties, became unwell after arriving at her home shortly after midnight and struggled to walk.
Nyarko assisted her into the property before following her into a downstairs toilet, where the rape occurred, according to the evidence presented in the case.
The incident was reported to Thames Valley Police in 2024. Nyarko was subsequently arrested and charged on August 28, 2024, as the investigation progressed.
Detective Constable Lyndsay Gofton, who investigated the case, said Nyarko had taken advantage of the woman after she had relied on him to help her get home safely.
“This was a terrible abuse of trust by Nyarko, who took advantage of a woman who was vulnerable after a night out and relied on him to help her get home safely,” she said.
The officer said the woman had accepted Nyarko’s assistance because he was known to her.
“The victim welcomed Nyarko’s assistance because he was known to her. Instead of ensuring that she was safe, he exploited her and committed a serious sexual offence,” she added.
According to police, Nyarko denied the offence throughout the investigation. The case eventually proceeded to trial, where the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict.
Detective Constable Gofton also commended the victim for her conduct throughout the investigation and court proceedings.
“I would like to commend the victim for the courage and dignity she has shown throughout this investigation and court process,” she said.
She said the woman’s decision to come forward and support the prosecution had helped secure the conviction.
Nyarko will now serve an eight-year prison sentence following the Aylesbury Crown Court ruling.
