TUC warns of possible strike over alleged unequal public sector salary increases

The General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, has warned that organised labour could embark on industrial action if concerns over alleged disparities in public sector salary adjustments are not addressed by the government.

Speaking at the 2026 Annual Labour Conference in Ho on Friday, June 26, Mr. Ansah called on the government to uphold fairness and equity in the administration of salaries across the public service amid reports that some categories of public sector workers have received significantly higher pay increases than others.

According to him, organised labour has taken notice of claims suggesting that certain groups of public sector employees benefited from salary increments of up to 100 percent, describing the reports as disturbing and deserving of immediate clarification.

Mr. Ansah stressed that if the reports prove to be true, organised labour would demand a more equitable distribution of national resources to ensure that all public sector workers are treated fairly.

He cautioned that any perceived preferential treatment in salary adjustments could undermine industrial harmony and erode confidence in the government’s commitment to fairness.

The TUC General Secretary further emphasized that while dialogue remains the preferred approach to resolving labour disputes, workers reserve the right to resort to strike action if negotiations fail to produce satisfactory outcomes.

He urged the government to engage organised labour transparently and address the concerns before they escalate into an industrial dispute.
