The Ministry of Health has temporarily closed the Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo in the Bono East Region following days of student unrest that culminated in the arrest of some students during a protest over issues affecting the institution.
This follows a protest by students of the college over welfare and academic concerns, which led to the arrest of some students following a confrontation with police. The students have since been released
The closure, announced in a statement dated Wednesday, July 29, 2026, takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
“The Ministry of Health wishes to inform students, parents, guardians, staff, and the general public that the Nursing Training College, Techiman Krobo has been temporarily closed with immediate effect until further notice,” the statement said.
According to the Ministry, the decision was necessitated by the continued breakdown of discipline on campus despite several interventions aimed at restoring calm.
The Ministry said repeated engagements involving stakeholders, including the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), failed to resolve the impasse.
“Despite several meetings, counselling, and appeals by stakeholders including Regional Security Council, the Ministry to encourage dialogue and restore order, some students have continued to engage in conduct that disrupts academic activities and threatens the peace, safety, and orderly administration of the institution.”
It explained that the temporary closure is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and allow authorities to assess the situation before reopening the college.

The Ministry directed all students to vacate the campus peacefully by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, while assuring stakeholders that efforts were underway to resolve the situation.
Meanwhile, the Union of Trainee Nurses and Midwives, Ghana (UTNMG), has condemned the arrest of students during the protest and called for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The union described the arrests as disturbing and urged the relevant authorities to investigate the matter while ensuring that the rights and welfare of the affected students are protected.
