The Ghana Medical Trust Fund(GMTF) has begun discussions with the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) on potential areas of collaboration ahead of its maiden September Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Awareness Month.

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opokua, led a delegation to meet the leadership of SIGA to discuss partnership opportunities and efforts to strengthen the national response to chronic Non-Communicable Diseases.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for the Trust Fund to update SIGA on progress made during its first year of operations and its efforts to expand access to specialised healthcare for people living with NCDs.

The delegation further presented plans for the September NCD Awareness Month, a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness of the growing burden of non-communicable diseases and their impact on individuals, families, the healthcare system and national productivity.

The delegation was received by the Director-General of SIGA, Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte, and his team, who expressed interest in the work and vision of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

The discussions are expected to contribute to efforts to build strategic partnerships to strengthen the awareness campaign and mobilise broader national action against the rising burden of NCDs.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund said it remains committed to strengthening care for chronic Non-Communicable Diseases and improving access to specialised treatment for affected Ghanaians.

The Trust Fund’s September campaign will form part of broader efforts to promote awareness, prevention and early intervention in addressing Non-Communicable Diseases in Ghana.
