Police in Nkawkaw have begun investigations into the death of a baby boy whose decomposed body was discovered in a stream near the Krofofrom Timber Market in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The infant, estimated to be between six and eight months old, was found on Friday, August 7, 2026, after the Krofofrom Electoral Area Assemblyman, Benjamin Kwadwo Agyapong, was alerted to the discovery.
Mr Agyapong subsequently reported the matter to the police and accompanied officers to the location, where the child’s remains were recovered from the water.
The body was in an advanced state of decomposition and has been conveyed to a mortuary for examination as investigators work to determine how the child died.
The discovery has triggered concerns among residents over the possibility of foul play. The Assemblyman alleged that the infant’s penis was missing, raising suspicions that the child could have been killed and mutilated.
The claim, however, has not been independently confirmed by the police, and investigators have yet to establish the cause of death or determine whether the child was deliberately harmed.
Authorities are also working to establish the identity of the deceased and locate his family. Information is expected to be shared through information centres in Krofofrom and nearby communities to assist with the identification.
