The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended the Constituency Chairman for Awutu Senya East, Stephen Ofosu Agyare from office for five months following a petition filed against him by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
The decision was taken by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) at its meeting held on July 21, 2026, after considering the petition alongside recommendations submitted by the Central Regional Council of Elders.
In a letter signed by the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party said the FEC found sufficient grounds to invoke Articles 48(4) and 48(6) of the NDC Constitution, leading to the chairman’s immediate suspension.
According to the letter, the suspended constituency chairman has also been referred to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee for investigation and any further action deemed appropriate under the party’s constitution.
The General Secretary directed the suspended chairman to refrain from performing any official duties or exercising any authority as Constituency Chairman throughout the five-month suspension period or until the matter is finally determined by the party.
The NDC further indicated that copies of the petition submitted by the Member of Parliament and the report of the Central Regional Council of Elders were attached to the suspension letter.
While the party has not publicly disclosed the specific allegations contained in the petition, the referral to the National Disciplinary Committee is expected to determine the next course of action following its investigations.
