The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old man, Seidu Masawudu, also known as Mashaa, in connection with an alleged robbery attack that turned fatal in Obuasi.
Police say the suspect is believed to have been part of an armed gang that attacked Abdul Jabal Sulemana on July 9, 2026, during which the victim sustained fatal stab wounds.
Speaking at a media briefing, the Deputy Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, ACP Cephas Arthur, explained that officers responded to the incident immediately but did not make any arrests at the scene.
“A follow-up was made to the AGA Hospital in Obuasi, where Abdul Jabal Sulemana was receiving treatment. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead,” he said.
Investigators later launched an intelligence-driven operation that led them to Bongo in the Upper East Region, where Masawudu was tracked down and arrested. He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
ACP Arthur reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime, warning criminal groups that law enforcement would continue pursuing offenders.
“The police will not give room for their activities. We are determined to deal ruthlessly with anyone who engages in crime,” he cautioned.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been deposited at the morgue for an autopsy as investigations continue.
