The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on the Speaker of Parliament to recall the House to investigate multiple narcotics seizures involving Ghana.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye said the party demands Parliament to establish a special bipartisan committee to investigate the cases.
He said the committee should be empowered to summon witnesses, obtain relevant documents and conduct its proceedings publicly.
“Parliament is the one institution constitutionally mandated to hold the Executive to account on behalf of the people of Ghana,” Nana Boakye said.
The NPP’s call follows a series of recent narcotics seizures in Ghana and abroad involving consignments the party says are linked to the country.
The party cited the September 7, 2026 seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine at the Port of Dunkirk in France.
The consignment, originating from Ghana, was concealed in plastic waste and had an estimated value of about €225 million.
The NPP said three suspects were subsequently arrested in Ghana.
The NPP also referenced the seizure of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at Tema Harbour in August 2026. According to the party, the parcels were concealed in sacks of gari, with London identified as the intended destination.
Other cases cited include the March 2025 seizure of more than 3.3 tonnes of cocaine at Pedu Junction in Cape Coast and another interception involving approximately 120 slabs of cocaine along the Takoradi-Cape Coast Highway.
Nana Boakye said the proposed inquiry should establish what happened after each major seizure and whether investigations have resulted in completed prosecutions.
“We therefore call on the Speaker to recall the House without delay, and we call for the establishment of a special bipartisan committee, drawn from both sides of the aisle, with full powers to summon witnesses, compel the production of documents and sit in public session, to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the drug seizures linked to Ghana,” he said.
He said the party wanted the committee to conduct its work openly.
“We insist that this committee sit in public, and we insist on that deliberately,” Nana Boakye stated.
