The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the removal of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and heads of other key security and law enforcement institutions following a series of narcotics seizures linked to Ghana.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye said officials within the security chain must be held accountable.
“We would have thought that a president confronted with this scale of national disgrace would move immediately to relieve of their duties every official in the chain of command who has failed this country.”
The NPP is demanding the removal of the IGP, National Security Coordinator, Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau, Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission and Commissioner-General of Customs.
It also wants the heads of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ghana Maritime Authority, Ghana Shippers’ Authority and Ghana Airports Company Limited removed.
The party cited several seizures, including more than 3.3 tonnes of cocaine intercepted at Pedu Junction in March 2025, 866 parcels of suspected cocaine seized at Tema Harbour in August 2026 and nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine intercepted in France in September 2026.
Nana Boakye also questioned the alleged link between an individual connected to the Dunkirk seizure and presidential and vice-presidential security details.
“How does an individual with that level of proximity to the Presidency end up linked to a four-tonne cocaine shipment? Did he use that access to compromise our security infrastructure? Is there any connection between people close to the seat of power and this trade?”
The NPP is further demanding the recall of Parliament and a bipartisan public inquiry into the seizures, including investigations into their financiers and organisers.
