The role of commercial diplomacy in strengthening trade and investment ties between Ghana and the United States has been highlighted following a visit by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Rolf Olson to Niche Cocoa’s facility in Tema.
The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the growth of a Ghanaian-owned company that has expanded its operations internationally through strategic partnerships and investment.
Founded by Ghanaian entrepreneur Edmund Poku, Niche Cocoa has become one of Ghana’s leading cocoa processing companies, with its operations contributing to value addition within the country’s cocoa sector.
The company partnered with the Omanhene Cocoa Bean Company to establish its first North American production facility in Franklin, Wisconsin, in 2023.
The project has been described as one of the largest African foreign direct investment initiatives in the U.S. food and beverage sector, positioning the company to tap into the American cocoa market valued at about $3 billion.
During the visit, Mr. Olson highlighted the importance of business partnerships between Ghana and the United States, noting that increased trade and investment cooperation can create jobs and support economic growth in both countries.
The expansion of Niche Cocoa’s operations demonstrates how Ghanaian enterprises can leverage international partnerships to access new markets while promoting local cocoa processing and industrial development.
