The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTAs) has praised President John Dramani Mahama for restoring Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all pre-tertiary institutions across the country.
The Ghana Education Service (GES), in a statement issued on Thursday, July 17, 2025, and signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyii, announced the full reinstatement of PTAs in public Senior High, Technical, and STEM schools, following a directive from President Mahama.
The decision marks a shift from the previous Parent Associations (PAs) structure, which excluded teachers and limited collaboration between educators and parents.
In response, the NCPTAs issued a statement expressing deep appreciation to the President and GES.
According to them, the move affirms the essential role PTAs have played over the years in enhancing education delivery, infrastructure development, and community engagement.
The Council further assured stakeholders of its commitment to effective leadership, transparency, and accountability in its renewed mandate.
It also pledged to work closely with the GES and school authorities to ensure PTA activities are guided by best practices and focused solely on the welfare of the Ghanaian child.
“The National PTA Council wishes to assure the general public, parents, and stakeholders that it is committed to ensuring the effective and transparent functioning of PTAs across all institutions,” the statement read.
“We remain firmly against any form of institutional manipulation or micro-management that undermines the independence of parental voice in education and collaborative nature of PTAs in Ghana.”
The NCPTAs called on all parents, teachers, and school management teams to embrace the reinstatement and work together to advance Ghana’s education outcomes.
