The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three suspects after dismantling what it describes as a fully operational cannabis production and distribution network in the Volta Region.

The arrests were made during an overnight intelligence-led operation carried out by a tactical team on Monday, June 22, 2026, according to a statement from the Commission.

The operation targeted a network of stash houses located in Koleonu, Wegbe, and Akplamafu, where authorities say cannabis was being cultivated, processed, and distributed under a coordinated system.

NACOC disclosed that the facility was also being used for the production of hashish oil, indicating a more advanced level of drug processing beyond conventional cannabis cultivation.

The three suspects arrested are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

The Commission said the suspects will be prosecuted under Ghana’s narcotics laws, while efforts are underway to track additional members of the network and identify wider supply routes linked to the operation.

Officials noted that the discovery of hashish oil highlights the sophistication of the illicit enterprise, as the substance is a concentrated cannabis extract produced through a separate processing method.

NACOC further indicated that previous operations in the Volta Region this year had largely resulted in seizures of dried cannabis, making the recovery of hashish oil a significant development in its enforcement efforts.

The latest raid also marks the first arrest-led operation in the region under the Commission’s ongoing anti-cannabis campaign for the year.

The Commission recalled that on May 31, 2026, a separate operation at Gbi-Wegbe near Hohoe led to the seizure of 2,372.38 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis with an estimated street value of GHS1.19 million, though no arrests were made at the time.

NACOC reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against the cultivation, trafficking, and distribution of illicit drugs, describing the Volta Region as one of the country’s key cannabis cultivation zones.
