Moses Baiden Jnr., CEO of Margins Group and Vice Chairman of the ICC Global Digital Economy Commission, has called on African businesses and leaders to move beyond consuming technology and take a leading role in building the digital systems that will shape the continent’s future.
Mr. Baiden made the call when he delivered a keynote address at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Ghana CEO Breakfast Meeting on the theme, “Networking for Growth within a 24-Hour Economy.”
He said the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) was transforming industries and creating new opportunities, but stressed that Africa must take greater ownership of its digital future.
According to him, building a sustainable 24-hour economy requires more than simply adopting technologies developed outside the continent. It also demands strong digital infrastructure, trusted data and the capacity to develop innovative solutions tailored to Africa’s unique needs.
Mr. Baiden emphasised the importance of African businesses positioning themselves as creators and owners of technology rather than remaining dependent on external systems.
He said the ability to harness credible data, digital infrastructure and locally developed technologies would be critical to driving productivity, competitiveness and inclusive economic growth across Africa.
At Margins ID Group, he noted, the company was demonstrating how African-built systems and credible data that could support meaningful growth while empowering leaders and businesses to shape the continent’s digital transformation.
He urged African business leaders to embrace innovation, strengthen collaboration and invest in systems that can support economic activity around the clock.
