The Majority Caucus in Parliament has dismissed allegations that its Members of Parliament were allocated special travel privileges to attend the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the claims as misleading and capable of generating unnecessary tension in the House.
The controversy was triggered after the Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed, alleged that each Majority MP had been given two travel slots for the tournament, in addition to three slots reportedly assigned to constituencies.
The Minority argued that the alleged arrangement amounted to preferential treatment and raised concerns about fairness in the allocation of such opportunities.
However, the Majority Caucus has firmly rejected the claims, insisting that no such travel allocations have been made to MPs or their constituencies.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor described the allegations as unfounded.
He clarified that neither the government nor Parliament has sponsored or designated travel slots for individual lawmakers to attend the global football tournament.
He urged the public to disregard the claims, stressing that they risk creating avoidable misunderstandings within the legislative body.
