President John Dramani Mahama has called for stronger international action to end the suffering of Palestinians, warning that the crisis in Gaza is testing the credibility of the global system.
Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday, September 24, 2026, President Mahama said the international community must confront the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the West Bank and the occupied territories.
“Nowhere is this crisis of credibility more painful than in the ongoing persecution of the Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and the occupied territories,” he said.
He urged world leaders to stop using diplomatic language to mask the scale of the crisis.
“We must stop using diplomatic euphemisms to veil the human carnage taking place in Gaza,” he stated.
President Mahama also condemned collective punishment, starvation and mass displacement.
“Collective punishment, enforced starvation, and mass displacement are flagrant violations of international law,” he said.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s support for Palestine and a two-state solution, while also condemning Hamas and calling on all parties to respect international humanitarian law.
“Ghana remains unwavering in its recognition of the sovereign State of Palestine and its steadfast support for a viable Two-State solution, where Israel and Palestine live side-by-side in peace, security, and guaranteed borders,” he said.
Ghana continues to support a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. President Mahama’s remarks form part of his broader call for respect for international law, protection of civilians and stronger multilateral action.
