President John Dramani Mahama has nominated creative industry executive Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria.
The appointment, announced on March 1, 2026, by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, places Abu in one of Ghana’s most strategic diplomatic postings, given Nigeria’s status as West Africa’s largest economy and a key regional ally.
Abu, founder of 3Media Networks and the force behind the 3Music Awards, is expected to oversee Ghana’s mission in Abuja, promote trade and investment, deepen bilateral cooperation, and provide consular services to Ghanaians living in Nigeria. His nomination is subject to the formal approval of the Nigerian government.
He replaces Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, who was recalled in February after winning the National Democratic Congress parliamentary primaries in Ayawaso East, a development that prompted his removal from the diplomatic post.
Ghana and Nigeria maintain strong ties through trade, migration, culture and collaboration within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), making the High Commission a pivotal platform for advancing Ghana’s regional and economic interests.
