Kumasi tanker drivers begin three-day sit-down strike over metering, parking concerns

Tanker drivers in Kumasi have embarked on a three-day sit-down strike over concerns about alleged inaccuracies in petroleum product metering and inadequate parking facilities.

The drivers say discrepancies in the metering of petroleum products are affecting their operations and resulting in financial losses.

According to them, the quantities recorded by the metering system do not always correspond with the actual volumes of products loaded, a situation they want authorities to investigate and address.

The drivers are also raising concerns about the lack of adequate and secure parking space for tanker operators in Kumasi.

They say the shortage of parking facilities forces them to leave their trucks along roadsides while waiting to load or offload petroleum products.

The situation, they argue, exposes the drivers and their vehicles to unnecessary risks while also creating congestion and inconvenience for other road users, particularly along busy routes.

The drivers are therefore calling on the relevant authorities and stakeholders to urgently provide a suitable and secure parking area for tanker operators.

They are also demanding a thorough inspection of the metering systems to ensure that the quantities recorded accurately reflect the actual volumes of petroleum products loaded.

The three-day industrial action has brought tanker operations in the area to a standstill as the drivers seek urgent intervention to resolve their concerns.

The drivers say they remain ready to resume work once concrete measures are taken to address the metering and parking challenges.
