Residents of the CMB Workshop area in Koforidua, Eastern Region, are calling for a thorough police investigation into allegations that women are being held and physically abused at a property reportedly occupied by foreign nationals.
The concerns emerged after residents allegedly heard cries and unusual noises from inside a gated facility, raising suspicions about the treatment of women on the premises.
According to a report by Starr FM, the residents said the sounds, which were reportedly heard in the evenings, prompted them to seek the intervention of local authorities.
The matter was brought to the attention of the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben North, Isaac Adongo, who subsequently alerted the police.
Police officers reportedly intervened and arrested some individuals at the facility. However, residents claim the individuals and the women were later taken back to the premises because of a lack of space in police cells.
The reported development has left residents concerned about the women’s safety and whether adequate measures have been taken to protect them.
The occupants are said to be African nationals involved in network marketing, but their identities and the specific circumstances surrounding the allegations remain unclear.
Residents want the police to establish what is happening at the property, determine whether any offences have been committed and ensure that the welfare of the women is protected.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and further clarification is needed from the police regarding the reported arrests and subsequent developments.
Authorities are expected to establish the facts and take appropriate action if any wrongdoing is confirmed.
