The Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre, Adib Saani, has appealed to security agencies to step up measures to prevent any breach of the peace amid the ongoing dispute over the funeral arrangements of the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo.
According to him, what began as a family disagreement has now evolved into a matter of public security due to recent events surrounding the case.
“The ongoing public dispute over the funeral arrangements of the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo has unfortunately moved beyond a family disagreement and now presents a matter of legitimate public safety concern,” he stated.
Mr. Saani cited the earlier shooting incident, pending court proceedings and the conflicting positions adopted by the parties as factors that have heightened tensions. He warned that the situation could escalate if not properly managed, particularly as supporters of both sides may gather during funeral activities.
He therefore urged all parties to exercise restraint, stressing that “no funeral should become a flashpoint for violence or disorder.”
The security analyst also called on the Ghana Police Service and other state institutions to undertake a comprehensive security risk assessment ahead of the funeral.
“I also call on the Ghana Police Service and other relevant state institutions to conduct a comprehensive security risk assessment and maintain a robust but impartial security presence throughout all funeral-related activities,” he said.
He added that intelligence-led policing, stakeholder engagement, effective crowd control and the enforcement of lawful court directives would be essential to maintaining public order.
Mr. Saani further urged security agencies to remain vigilant as the situation develops, noting that preventive measures are more effective than responding after violence has erupted.
He concluded by encouraging the parties to resolve their differences through legal and peaceful means, saying the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo should be honoured with “dignity, unity, and peace, not conflict.”
