Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has departed the country for Washington, D.C., United States, to participate in the 70th Anniversary Homecoming Conference of Sister Cities International.
The conference, scheduled for July 23, 2026, will bring together government officials, mayors, diplomats, business leaders, development partners and civil society representatives from around the world to discuss global cooperation, citizen diplomacy and sustainable development.
The Vice President will serve as Special Guest of Honour and deliver the opening plenary keynote address on the theme: “Forging Stronger Partnerships in Africa for Sustainable Economic Development through Sister Cities Global Partnerships Agenda.”
According to the organisers, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s participation marks a historic moment, as she becomes the first leader from outside the United States to deliver the opening keynote address at a Sister Cities International global conference.
The event, which celebrates seven decades of Sister Cities International, is expected to provide a platform for discussions on strengthening international partnerships and expanding collaboration between communities across borders.
The conference programme will feature high-level plenary sessions, policy discussions, investment forums, networking engagements, embassy receptions and a dedicated Africa Forum focused on building stronger partnerships between African communities and their international counterparts.
The Vice President’s participation is expected to highlight Ghana’s role in promoting international cooperation, economic partnerships and sustainable development through community-to-community relationships.
