Builsa North Member of Parliament James Agalga has been named the new Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, replacing Mahama Ayariga.
The change follows President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to nominate Mr. Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, subject to parliamentary approval.
In a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidency announced that President Mahama had, in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, submitted Mr. Ayariga’s name to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval as a Minister of State.
Mr. Ayariga, a lawyer and seasoned politician, has served as Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
He previously served as Minister for Information and Media Relations and Minister for Youth and Sports under the previous Mahama administration.
His replacement, James Agalga, is the Member of Parliament for Builsa North in the Upper East Region and a former Deputy Minister for the Interior under the John Mahama first administration.
He is expected to steer government business in Parliament as the new Majority Leader.
