President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Korle Klottey Member of Parliament, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, as Minister of State-designate for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
The nomination forms part of a ministerial reshuffle announced by the Presidency on Friday, with the names submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
If approved by Parliament, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, a medical doctor and legislator, will oversee the Ministry responsible for environmental protection, science, technology and innovation, at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to tackle climate change, plastic pollution and other environmental challenges.
Her nomination comes as the government advances key environmental initiatives, including proposed legislation on plastic management and broader measures aimed at promoting sustainable development.
The latest changes also saw Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, nominated as Minister-designate for the **Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
President Mahama further reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei to the Ministry of Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, was moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
All the nominations and ministerial reassignments are subject to parliamentary approval before the appointees can officially assume office.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has represented the Korle Klottey Constituency since 2017.
She is the daughter of Ghana’s late former President Jerry John Rawlings and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and has served on several parliamentary committees during her tenure.
