The government has settled all outstanding financial obligations to road contractors across the country, according to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza.

He disclosed that contractors engaged on both ongoing and newly introduced projects under the “Big Push” initiative have received full payment for certified work done.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the Kasoa–Winneba Highway with President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, April 23, the Minister stressed that the move is aimed at eliminating delays caused by unpaid claims and accelerating project delivery.

“As of today [Thursday, April 23], every contractor who has raised a work certificate on any Big Push project has been settled. We do not owe any contractor a pesewa,” he stated.

Mr. Agbodza noted that the government’s infrastructure agenda is deliberately structured to prioritise local contractors, ensuring that public investment also strengthens indigenous businesses.

He further praised the standard of work being executed on various sites, expressing confidence in the ability of Ghanaian contractors to deliver durable road infrastructure.

“The performance of Ghanaian contractors has been impressive. The quality of work is good, and our belief in their ability to fix our roads remains unwavering,” he added.

The government, he said, remains focused on maintaining steady funding for road projects as part of broader efforts to improve transport networks and support economic activity.
