Gold buyers across Ghana are now required to issue official Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) receipts for every transaction as the regulator begins strict nationwide enforcement of its directive.
The enforcement, which took effect on Monday, August 18, 2025, makes it mandatory for licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers to use GoldBod receipts as proof of transaction.
The move, according to the GoldBod in a statement on Monday, August 18, is aimed at promoting accountability and transparency in Ghana’s gold trade.
As a result, “The GoldBod Taskforce and Field Inspectors have been deployed across the country. All licensed buyers are required to make their receipt booklets available for inspection and cooperate fully with the inspection teams.”
The Board has also advised small-scale miners and traders to insist on receipts for every purchase, warning that failure to issue them constitutes a serious offence. Sanctions for defaulters may include suspension or complete revocation of licences.
GoldBod further noted that buyers who need assistance in acquiring receipt booklets can contact its Licensing and Regulatory Unit through dedicated hotlines.
The regulator says the strict enforcement is part of a broader effort to sanitise the sector, safeguard miners’ interests, and enhance transparency in Ghana’s gold industry.
“Licensed buyers are reminded that the non-issuance of GoldBod receipts constitutes a serious offence and may attract severe sanctions, including the suspension and/or revocation of their license.”
