The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, says the institution remains financially sound despite accusations from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus that it is operating at a loss and misusing public resources.
In a response to the allegations, Mr Gyamfi pointed to GoldBod’s 2025 audited financial statements, saying the report paints a different picture from the claims being circulated.
He stated that the Board closed the year with an operational surplus of GH¢909.7 million and an overall surplus of GH¢5.44 billion.
He explained that GoldBod has maintained positive financial performance even as the international gold market has experienced significant changes.
According to him, a decline of more than 23 per cent in gold prices since February, coupled with a reduction in the Board’s pricing incentives from approximately 14 per cent to six per cent, has not derailed its operations or financial outlook.
Mr Gyamfi said the institution continues to strengthen Ghana’s gold sector through increased gold purchases, foreign exchange mobilisation, support for the country’s gold reserves, local value addition and sustainability programmes. These efforts, he noted, keep the Board on course to meet its projections for the 2026 financial year.
He further criticised the Minority’s assertions, urging the public to ignore what he described as “the discredited cacophony of lies” being propagated by the caucus led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
The GoldBod CEO maintained that the institution will remain focused on executing its mandate and delivering value to the Ghanaian economy rather than being distracted by what he said are unfounded allegations.
