Ghana’s inflation rose to 5.2% in September 2026, up from 5.0% in August, with Ashanti recording the highest regional inflation rate at 9.8%, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

The September figure represents a 0.2 percentage-point increase from August. However, inflation remained 4.2 percentage points lower than the 9.4% recorded in September 2025.

The regional figures show significant differences in price pressures across the country. Ashanti recorded the highest inflation at 9.8%, followed by Eastern at 7.8% and Central at 7.2%.

Greater Accra recorded inflation of 3.4%, while Western recorded the lowest rate at -0.5%, indicating an average decline in prices compared with the same period last year.

The GSS said the figures highlight the differences in the cost of living across the regions.

“Where you live changes what you pay – from 9.8% in Ashanti to – 0.5% in Western, where prices actually fell,” the Service said.

Ashanti and Greater Accra together accounted for 56.6% of the national inflation rate in September, according to the GSS.

The September rate forms part of a broader decline in inflation over the past year. Headline inflation fell from 9.4% in September 2025 to a low of 3.2% in March 2026 before rising in subsequent months.

The GSS said the Consumer Price Index stood at 271.5 in September, compared with 258.0 in September 2025. Prices also increased by 1.1% between August and September. 05-Sep 2026 CPI-PPT

Food inflation rose from 3.0% in August to 4.0% in September, while non-food inflation eased from 6.8% to 6.2%. Services recorded a higher inflation rate of 8.3%, compared with 4.2% for goods.

The GSS also reported that locally produced items recorded inflation of 6.4%, compared with 2.4% for imported items.
