Two young men have been arraigned before a court in Ashaiman for their alleged involvement in a robbery and assault incident that occurred in the municipality earlier this month.
The accused, Mohammed Saad, 18, and Aaron Tetteh, 19, are facing robbery-related charges following an attack on a 29-year-old trader, Annette Bless Mantebea, in the early hours of June 13, 2026.
According to police investigations, the complainant, who resides at Zongo Laka in Ashaiman, was walking near the Ashaiman Pesewa Plaza area at about 2:00 a.m. when she was allegedly attacked by Mohammed Saad.
Police said the first accused assaulted the victim and attempted to rob her of a handbag containing GHS1,000.
Although the complainant managed to retrieve the handbag during a struggle, the suspect allegedly succeeded in taking her Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone valued at GHS1,000 before attempting to flee.
Investigators further alleged that Aaron Tetteh was waiting nearby on a black Royal Eagle motorbike with registration number M-25-GT 1028 to facilitate the escape.
With assistance from some residents in the area, Mohammed Saad was apprehended at the scene, while Aaron Tetteh allegedly escaped on the motorbike.
The complainant sustained injuries during the incident, including damage to her front teeth.
She was issued with a police medical report form and received treatment at the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital.
A subsequent medical report confirmed that she had been assaulted.
Police investigations revealed that on June 15, 2026, the father of the first accused person escorted Aaron Tetteh to the police station and identified him as an alleged accomplice in the robbery.
He was subsequently arrested to assist with investigations.
During the course of investigations, Aaron Tetteh reportedly led police to the residence of the owner of the motorbike allegedly used in the operation.
However, neither the owner nor the motorbike was found at the location.
Police said caution statements were obtained from both accused persons, who allegedly admitted their involvement in the incident.
The victim’s Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone and handbag were recovered and have been retained by investigators as exhibits.
The two accused persons have since been formally charged and brought before the court, where proceedings are expected to continue.
