The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has held discussions with the leadership of Shandong Gold Group in Jinan, China, as part of efforts to deepen cooperation on sustainable mining and responsible resource management in Ghana.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of Shandong Gold Group, focused on opportunities to strengthen collaboration and promote environmentally responsible mining practices.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah commended the company’s approach to green mining, particularly its integration of large-scale environmental rehabilitation, tree-planting initiatives and stringent worker safety measures into its mining operations.
He described the company’s model as an example of modern resource extraction that Ghana could draw lessons from as the country seeks to promote sustainable mining while protecting its natural environment.
The Minister urged the leadership of Shandong Gold Group to scale up the deployment of advanced and environmentally friendly technologies in its operations, including the use of electric mining vehicles.
According to him, greater adoption of such technologies would help reduce the environmental and operational footprint of mining activities while safeguarding Ghana’s ecological resources.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah said Ghana was ready to deepen its strategic partnership with Shandong Gold Group on a mutually beneficial basis.
He further invited the Chinese mining giant to consider Ghana as a strategic hub for expanding its operations and industrial investments across the African continent.
The engagement forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to attract responsible investment into the mining sector while ensuring that mineral resources are exploited in a manner that promotes economic growth, environmental sustainability and the welfare of mining communities.
