The Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed Tuesday, December 30, 2025, for a rerun of the parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency following a court order and formal notification from Parliament.

The decision comes amid heightened political tension over the seat. Following the Tamale High Court ruling, Parliament moved to declare the Kpandai seat vacant, a step that drew strong objections from the Minority.

Minority MPs protested the Clerk’s action, arguing that due process had not been fully exhausted and warning that the decision risked undermining parliamentary procedure. They have since called for restraint as legal avenues are pursued.

In a statement on Wednesday, December 10, EC announced that the decision stems from a Tamale High Court ruling on November 24, 2025, which directed that the Kpandai parliamentary election be rerun within 30 days.

The EC said it subsequently received a letter from the Clerk to Parliament on December 9, officially declaring the seat vacant, thereby triggering preparations for a fresh poll.

“As a result of the court ruling and the declaration of vacancy in Parliament, the Commission will conduct a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in the Kpandai Constituency on Tuesday, 30th December 2025,” the EC stated.

According to the Commission, the rerun will be contested only by the three candidates who took part in the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.

Despite the protests, the EC said it is acting in accordance with the court order and its constitutional mandate.

The Commission assured the public of its readiness to conduct a transparent, fair and peaceful election in line with Ghana’s electoral laws and democratic principles.
